I agreed to further enhance Pak-US bilateral cooperation. According to ISPR, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa was received by Acting US Ambassador Angela Egler.
During the meeting, the regional security situation and issues of mutual interest were discussed. The progress made so far in the Afghan peace process was also discussed in detail, reiterating the Pak-US commitment to further enhance cooperation in all areas.
The US Secretary of State praised Pakistan's sincere efforts in the Afghan process. The US Ambassador also assured the continuation of US assistance for peace in Afghanistan.
Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that cooperation between Pakistan and the United States is expected to be further strengthened in all fields. The Army Chief welcomed the announcement of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan by September 2021 and said that a prosperous, stable and peaceful Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan and the region. On the other hand, Foreign Office spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry said in his statement that the US President has announced that the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan will start from May 1 this year and will be completed by September 11. It is important that the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan is in line with the progress made in the peace process. Pakistan, in collaboration with Afghan stakeholders, supports responsible troop withdrawals.
