Corona's second wave | India: What | happening to medical staff?

India is emerging from the second severe wave of the coronavirus and the number of new cases has dropped daily, but the country's medical staff has been hit hard by the horrors of the disease.

According to Dr Kedar Torskar, who works in the ICU of Mumbai's Vocardized Hospital, he has not been able to sleep properly for the past several months after seeing youngsters fighting the disease in the ICU.

"We've seen a lot of people die," he said. Many of them were young people who died of the disease. "It's a very painful situation," he said.

In May, more than 400,000 cases were reported daily in India, putting severe pressure on hospitals.

The demand for oxygen was high in the country and TV channels were showing patients dying on stretchers outside hospitals. Many died at home before the corona virus test results came out. According to the Associated Press, the country's health system had completely failed.

According to the Indian Medical Association, about 700 doctors died of corona virus during the last wave of corona virus in the country.

About 30 million cases of corona virus have been reported in India so far. The death toll is close to 379,000.

Experts say the number of cases and deaths far exceeds official figures.

Dr. Kedar and his team of ICU doctors are tired after many months of hard work. He had to work 14 hours a day, while many times the hospital had fewer beds for new patients. According to Dr. Kedar, some of his relatives did not get a bed in the ICU.

But according to him, awareness of the corona virus has increased in the country during the last wave. According to him, before that, people were afraid of being tested for the corona virus. But in the wake of this wave, people now understand the difficulties that coronavirus patients and their families face.

According to him, where every death has had a lasting effect on the ICU team, every rehabilitation patient has raised hopes that the epidemic will end soon.
