Qater : We will not take responsibility ! Kabul Airport without a clear agreement

Qater

Qatar has warned it will not accept responsibility for the airport without clear agreements on its operations.

According to AFP, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani told a news conference on Tuesday that "we need to make sure that everything is clear, if not everything.  Kabul will not be able to take responsibility for the airport.

The Foreign Minister said that talks were underway regarding the operation of Kabul Airport.

"We need an agreement that clarifies each and all parties who will handle technical matters and who will be responsible for security matters."

"Partnerships with other countries may be possible if needed, but talks are still ongoing between Turkey, the Taliban and us," he added.

Several Qatar Airways flights have landed at Kabul Airport since the US withdrew from Afghanistan.  Relief supplies have been flown to Kabul by Qatar Airways flights, while Afghans with foreign passports have also been sent to Doha.

It may be recalled that the first commercial flight of Pakistan National Airlines (PIA) landed at Kabul Airport on Monday after the withdrawal of US and foreign forces was completed.

According to airport staff, the PIA return flight to Islamabad had 70 passengers on board, most of them Afghans.

However, the resumption of regular commercial flights will be a test for the Taliban leadership, which has repeatedly assured Afghans that they will be free to leave the country.
