The president, who has ruled Chad for 30 years, was killed during a battle with rebels in the African country of Chad.
A statement from the military said Chad's 68-year-old president, Idris Debbie, had been fighting alongside rebels in Sahel County.
Earlier, Idriss Debbie came to power after a military coup in 1990 and was recently elected president for the sixth time. However, after the president's death, the military dissolved parliament and called for elections in 18 months.
On the other hand, President Debbie's son, 37-year-old Four Star General Muhammad Idris, was made head of the Military Council
